I am going to start off by saying that I have just recently been re-acquainted with this awesome series after getting my hands on several episodes of the series. Watching these episodes again has established this series as THE best anthology series to ever hit the airwaves.
[SYNOPSIS]
'Levitation' takes place at a run-down carnival in somewhere, USA and the opening shot pans on two friends as the approach the sideshow. One of the friends is a budding magician himself that is in awe of the master of time and destiny himself, the great Kharma!
The two make their way to see the amazing show, but the great Kharma disappoints with his store-bought bag of tricks and fails to live up to the promise of doing any real magic. Let down by the great Kharma, the young man seeks the magician out in the break area after the show to confront the legend. After pleading with the great one to do some real magic for a few minutes, he (Frank) is finally led away by Kharma's aging female apprentice so they can be left alone in peace.
Determined, Frank and his buddy come back to the next show that takes place that night. Kharma notices the two young men in the audience once more as he takes the stage and begins with the same old bag of tricks. Frustrated with this scene, Frank begins taunting the great Kharma in the middle of his routine, even giving the secrets away to the audience to make Kharma seem a phony and not one of the greatest magicians since Houdini.
After awhile, Kharma grows tired of the heckling and calls on the young man up to the stage to show the young man the very real magic that young Frank wasn't quite prepared for..[end]
[REVIEW]
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite episodes. First off, I love horror movies set at a carnival. It lends a great atmosphere to this episode. Kharma is played by Joseph Turkel, which you may remember from the movie 'Blade Runner.' He was the man that ran the Tyrell Corporation. Anyway, he does a fantastic job playing a magician and his spooky face is fantastic. The young guy that plays 'Frank' does a good job playing the brash, thingyy magician wanna-be.
It's not particularly scary, but the episode is written very well and really held my interest. Nice music and acting all around. I love when Frank starts heckling Kharma during his performance and you can see the fire in Kharma's eyes right before he turns attention on Frank and gestures for him to come forward. The ending is truly fantastic and creepy as young Frank gets more than he bargains for. This is a must-see classic episode in my book. [end]
RATING: 94%
