In the quest to obtain perfect copies of Tales on DVD, I've been DVRing all of the episodes they are showing on MeTV here in Chicago. These are the closest broadcastings to the original. Unlike the ones on SciFi, MeTV doesn't shrink the credits at the end and they show the title cutscene between commercials. They also have the Tribune Broadcasting & LBS spots at the end of the credits for you purists. The only 2 drawbacks are the little MeTV bug in the lower left hand corner, but it's barely noticeable & I left all the commercials in because I didn't want to possibly lose any of the episode by pausing it. I don't know if they are ever going to show every single episode, but I have 18 of them so far. Anyway, I've transferred The Madness Room to DVD and it looks perfect. The quality of the picture and audio is 100%. My DVD recorder puts a generic title menu on the disc, but that's no big deal.
Here's my question -- are there copies of TFTD already out there on DVD w/o any commercials and of original broadcast quality? If so, then I'm not going to try and turn this into a big project, but if not, these episodes are a good starting point. I don't have the time to dump everything to MPEG, run them through a video editor to edit out the commercials and re-encode to DVD. Plus, unless it's done correctly, there's bound to be some quality loss in the encoding. But, I can provide .ISOs of the episodes that are picture perfect. If someone really wants to go further and dump the video, edit the commercials and re-encode, that's great. I need some guinea pigs to test my copy to see if it's actually the real deal. On all of my equipment it looks great, but I need some people to test it on theirs.
The .ISO is about 2.3 GB. I don't want to start seeding this on BitTorrent just yet. So, I guess here are the options of me getting it to you:
- FTP... I could split RAR the ISO into a bunch of smaller files and upload them to an FTP site.
- I'm willing to send you a copy via snail mail. I could send you a DVD Video or the .ISO burned onto a DVD.
If anybody has any other ideas of where I could upload these files to, let me know. Also let me know if this has all been done before. From what I've seen on BitTorrent, those copies are old transfers from VHS. They are also relatively small files, so they're not 720x480. And from what I've heard about the bootleg DVD box sets, they're ok, but not great.
Who's game?
